The site publishes one band and no per-foot rate. The axis is linear feet multiplied by sides, so a per-foot figure is what would actually let someone price their own fence.
- Linear feet, not square feet
- Fencing is priced by the run. It is the one surface on this site where area is the wrong unit, because height varies far less than length does.
- One side or both
- Both sides is two runs of work, not one job done twice as thoroughly. This is the single biggest thing people do not account for.
- Access along the line
- A fence with a bed, a slope or a shed against it is slower than an open run, and a boundary you cannot reach from your own side is a conversation before it is a price.
- What it is made of
- Vinyl is quick. Softwood is slow because it has to be gentle. Masonry is slow because it is dwell time.
The $100 to $300 figure is Crown’s own published fence cleaning range, carried from the pressure washing hub unchanged, where it notes this is usually priced by run rather than area. It is the cheapest thing Crown publishes and it is almost never booked alone: it goes on the same visit as a house wash or a driveway, which is where it makes sense. Taking a fence out rather than cleaning it is fence and gate removal.

Vinyl Fencing
Looks worst, cleans easiest
Vinyl shows every bit of dirt because it started white, which makes it the most satisfying surface on this list. Solution and a rinse; force is unnecessary and can craze the surface.
Retaining & Garden Walls
Porous, shaded, and usually the worst of it
Block, stone and poured retaining walls sit low, stay damp and hold growth. Masonry is a dwell-time job: the mortar is softer than the block and it is what fails first under pressure.

Why one side looks twice as bad
Algae needs damp and shade. On almost every property one run of fence is markedly worse than the rest, and it is nearly always the one that never sees direct sun. It is not neglect. It is aspect.
Half your fence faces somewhere you do not own
This sounds obvious written down and it is the single most common reason a fence job turns awkward on the day. It is worth five minutes before you book anyone, and it costs nothing to sort out.

Sides a boundary fence has, and you may only have access to one of them

A boundary fence has two faces and one owner’s yard on each side. We can clean the side that faces you from your property without anyone else being involved. The other face needs somebody to be standing on the neighboring side, which means their agreement, and ideally their gate unlocked on the day.
Most neighbors say yes immediately, because they get a clean fence out of it for nothing. The problem is almost never refusal: it is nobody having asked, the neighbor being out, and a crew standing at a locked gate with a booked slot.
Decide which sides you are paying for before you get a number. Both sides is two runs of work. A quote for “the fence” that does not say which faces it covers is a quote that can change on the day, and this is worth being exact about with anyone you ask, not only with us.
Who owns the fence is a separate question. It does not affect cleaning (nobody needs permission to wash their own side), but it matters a great deal if the fence is coming out instead, and Kentucky has a statute on exactly that. It is covered on fence and gate removal rather than repeated here.

Can you clean the neighbor’s side of my fence?
Only with their agreement and access, because cleaning that face means standing in their yard. Nearly everyone says yes (they get a clean fence for nothing), but it has to be asked before the day, not on it. If you are not sure, book the side you control and add the other as a smaller second visit.
Why is one section of my fence so much worse?
Aspect. Algae needs damp and shade, so the run that never gets direct sun grows far more than the rest. On most properties that is a north-facing or tree-shaded section, and it is the reason a fence can look neglected at one end and fine at the other.
Will it strip the stain off my fence?
Not at the pressure we use, and that is the point of doing it gently. Softwood fence boards fur exactly the way deck boards do if they are pushed too hard, and an aggressive wash on a stained fence takes the finish with it. If you are planning to re-stain afterwards, say so: the same dry-time issue applies as on a deck.
