Pasture & Field Reclamation
The job Madison County calls us for most.
Ground that stopped being grazed and went to brush. Priced by the acre, and the tier most Richmond jobs land in.
Pasture & field reclamationOvergrown lots, reclaimed pasture, fence lines and small trees, cleared and hauled off, not mulched and left on your ground. Richmond is the furthest of our regular markets, which is exactly why this page is aimed at lot-and-up work.

This is the one that catches people out, because the headline number matches and everything under it does not. If you read about Lexington’s rule and assumed the rest carried, it did not.
The number is the same. Richmond’s Chapter 94 on nuisances makes it a nuisance to keep “weeds, grass, or other vegetation on premises which is greater than ten inches in height.” Ten inches, as in Fayette.
The exemptions are not. Richmond’s section excepts ornamental plantings, landscaping, and fruit and vegetable gardens. Fayette’s ordinance carves out something quite different: land over an acre known to be non-buildable needs only an eight-foot buffer where it meets developed property, agricultural land is exempt, and deliberate native plantings are permitted if maintained. Those Fayette exemptions are the ones acreage owners rely on, and they are Fayette’s, not Richmond’s.
It is also enforced through a different route. Richmond’s Codes Enforcement oversees compliance with city ordinances and the International Property Maintenance Code, from 239 W. Main Street on (859) 625-6404. Fayette runs its weed rule through a code enforcement board under the state’s code enforcement statutes. Same figure, different chapter, different process.
And outside the city limits it is a different question again. Unincorporated Madison County is county ground, where the state’s nuisance abatement statute applies, including its provision that the section is not enforced by a county government on premises in an unincorporated part of the county assessed as agricultural land for tax purposes. On acreage, how your parcel is assessed matters more than how tall the grass is.
This is a plain-English summary, not legal advice, and codes change. Richmond Codes Enforcement on (859) 625-6404 is the authority inside the city, and the county is the authority outside it. If you are not sure which side of the line your ground is on, send the address and we will tell you what we can see. Send photos and ask

Pasture & field reclamation
The one that arrives with a letter.
Vacant lots, rentals between tenants and neglected parcels. Inside the city this is what the ten-inch rule drives.
Overgrown lot clearing, in detail
Clearing a line, not an area.
Drives, fence lines and access routes. On Madison County acreage this is very often the whole job.
Right-of-way clearing
Clearing to a plan.
Pads, drives and outbuilding sites made workable. Quoted against the plan rather than off a rate card.
Site preparation
Under about 20 feet. Taller is a tree service.
Volunteers and scrub along old fence lines, and the stumps they leave behind.
Tree removal & stump grindingMadison County is the furthest we regularly travel and the most rural of the four markets we build a page like this for. Both facts point the same way.
A quarter-acre corner at this distance costs us most of a day and costs you the same as one round the corner in Lexington. The maths does not work for either of us, and we would rather say so when you ask than after you have taken a morning off.
The city also runs no brush or bulk collection at all, which we set out on the Richmond services page, so whoever cuts it here has to haul it, and that is priced in rather than assumed away.
On a day’s work or more the drive is a small share of the job and the distance barely moves the number. Reclaimed pasture, fence lines, full lot clears and site work are what Madison County calls us for, and they are what we are set up for here.
It is also why pasture reclamation leads the list above rather than sitting fifth, as it does on the pages for towns closer in.
The same published ranges as the main land clearing service. A page about one city should not quote you a different number from the page about the service. You get a firm figure before anything starts.
Light brush and undergrowth. A back corner, a side yard, a fence line that’s got away from you.
Dense brush and small trees. A full honeysuckle thicket, or ground that hasn’t been touched in years.
Clearing plus rough grading, worked to your plan rather than to a tidy-up.
PLACEHOLDER: three real Madison County jobs, before and after. Name the road or the part of the county and what was cleared in each caption; that detail is the part a competitor cannot copy.
CROWN’s own published list of the parts of Richmond and Madison County we work most often.
Outside Madison County? We clear land across Central Kentucky: Lexington, Georgetown, Nicholasville, Frankfort, Winchester, Versailles and Paris. The rule described above is this city’s own; every county in our area sets its own and the figures genuinely differ.
Extremely helpful and nice, was hired for land clearing and site preparation they removed pesky honey suckle. Definitely going to hire them in the future.
Very quick from contact to in home to remove some flooring. Once on site they got straight to work and did an outstanding job! Very reasonable price for the work done. Will continue to use them for all future needs.
Very hard workers that cleaned out a whole house that was trashed and filthy. Very polite and considered. Would definitely recommend this company!
If yours isn’t here, call: we’d rather answer it before you book than after.
Send the photos with the address and the date. Whether it is workable is the first thing we come back on, not the last.
(859) 213-6077Ten inches. Chapter 94 of the city code makes weeds, grass or other vegetation greater than ten inches in height a nuisance, excepting ornamental plantings, landscaping and fruit and vegetable gardens. It is the same figure as Lexington-Fayette but a different ordinance with different exemptions, so do not carry one county’s rule across to the other. Richmond Codes Enforcement is on (859) 625-6404.
No. Outside the city you are on county ground and it is a different regime. Kentucky’s nuisance abatement statute governs there, and it includes a provision that its terms are not enforced by a county government on premises in an unincorporated portion of the county that is assessed as agricultural land for tax purposes. For a lot of Madison County acreage, how the parcel is assessed matters more than the height of anything on it. Check the assessment before you assume either way.
Sometimes, and we would rather tell you now. Richmond is the furthest of our regular markets, so on a small tidy-up the drive is most of what you would be paying for. Full lots, pasture, fence lines and site work all price sensibly at this distance because the travel is a small share of a full day. Send the address and the acreage and you will get a straight yes or no rather than a quote we then wriggle out of.
Yes, unless the stumps are treated. It resprouts from the stump, so cutting alone does not kill it: lasting control means repeated cutting over several years or a herbicide treatment on the cut stumps. We cut, load and haul; we do not spray. The Madison County Extension office is the right place to ask what goes on the stumps, and the job is far cheaper once the thicket is already down.
We haul it away, and here that matters more than anywhere else we work. Mulching grinds the brush and leaves the chips on your ground; on a field you intend to graze or work, that is material you then have to deal with. Richmond also has no municipal brush collection to fall back on, so the haul-off is not a nicety: it is the difference between a finished job and a pile.
A small residential lot with light brush and undergrowth runs $400 to $1,200, a medium or overgrown lot $1,200 to $3,500 and up, and full site preparation is quoted on the plan. Acreage reclamation is priced separately by the acre. These are the same figures as our main land clearing page: we do not price a job differently because of which page you landed on. What moves the number is property size, vegetation density, terrain and access.
Send the address, the rough acreage and two or three photos: one from the road and one from inside the growth. On acreage, whether a loaded truck can get back out matters as much as what is on it.
