Demolition in Georgetown, KY

Structures, interiors, sheds, concrete, decks and fences taken down and hauled off. Georgetown has the simplest permit arrangement of our eight towns: one office covers everything on this side of the county line.

  • One office permits demolition for the city and the whole county
  • The published residential demolition fee here is $52
  • Where the process is not published, we say so rather than guess

One office, four jurisdictions, which is rarer than it sounds

In most of the towns we work, a demolition on one side of a line goes to a different office from a demolition on the other. Here it does not, and that is genuinely useful.

$52 The published residential demolition permit fee on the current Georgetown/Scott County schedule Georgetown / Scott County Building Inspection Department, Building Inspection, 125 W Clinton Street, (502) 863-9802

The county designated a single enforcement agency. Scott County’s adopting ordinance states that “the Georgetown-Scott County Department of Building Inspection shall be designated as the local enforcement agent/agency” for the Kentucky Building Code and Kentucky Residential Code. One office, one set of expectations.

And the fee schedule proves the reach. It is headed “Stamping Ground - Sadieville - Georgetown - Scott County”: four jurisdictions on one document. If your property is anywhere on this side of the county line, 125 West Clinton Street on (502) 863-9802 is your office.

Residential demolition is a flat $52. The current schedule lists “Demolition $52” under residential, alongside “Moving a Structure $52”. Commercial demolition is priced off the valuation-based cost and fee table rather than at a flat rate.

What we could not find, and are not going to invent. Georgetown does not publish its demolition application form, and we found no published requirement here for utility disconnects, an asbestos report, insurance or a bond, not because there is none, but because it is not on the website. One call to (502) 863-9802 settles it, and that call is a better source than this page.

Code enforcement is a separate office in the same building on (502) 603-5844 and deals with property maintenance and overgrown ground rather than demolition permits. Do not ring them for this. This is a plain-English summary of published material, not legal advice, and Building Inspection is the authority on your address.

Interior room stripped back to the wall studs

Interior Gutting

Rentals, flips and additions.

Georgetown has been building and re-letting steadily for decades, and interior strip-outs between tenants or ahead of a remodel are a large part of what we do inside the city.

Interior gutting, in detail
Torn-out deck boards piled on a lawn

Deck & Porch Demolition

The subdivision classic.

Rear decks bolted to the house, most of them now old enough that the timber predates 2004, which rules out the bonfire and is why haul-off is in our price.

Concrete Removal

Drives, patios and pads.

Priced by weight rather than area. Measure the depth at a broken edge and you will understand your own quote better than most people do.

Fence & Gate Removal

Boundaries, and who owns them.

Priced by the running foot and the post type. On a shared boundary it is worth ten minutes establishing whose fence it is before it is on a truck.

What this page does not know about Georgetown

Every other page on this site tells you what a town requires. This one can tell you who and how much, but not what, and a page that pretended otherwise would be worse than this one.

What we can tell you

The office, the reach and the fee

The Georgetown/Scott County Building Inspection Department at 125 West Clinton Street on (502) 863-9802 permits demolition for Georgetown, unincorporated Scott County, Stamping Ground and Sadieville. Residential demolition is $52; commercial runs off the cost and fee schedule. All of that is published and checkable.

Which is more than most pages about this subject will give you.

What we cannot

The form, and what goes with it

The application form is not published in a form we could retrieve, and nothing on the city or county sites sets out whether a demolition here needs utility disconnects evidenced, an asbestos report attached, insurance filed or a bond posted. Other cities publish all four. We are not going to assume Georgetown matches any of them.

Ring (502) 863-9802 and ask. It takes a minute and it is the real answer.

Demolition prices in Georgetown

The same published ranges as the main demolition service: a page about one city should not quote you a different number from the page about the service. You get a firm figure before anything starts.

Fence or gate $200 to $1,200+

Wood, chain-link, vinyl and metal. Usually priced by the running foot and the post type.

Deck, porch or concrete $400 to $2,500+

Interior gutting $1,500 to $6,000+

Walls, drywall, insulation, flooring, ceilings and fixtures. Priced on rooms and what is behind them.

What it is built of
Timber comes apart. Concrete and masonry have to be broken, loaded and weighed.
Access
Whether a truck and trailer reach the work, or it is carried out by hand.
Disposal volume
The real driver on most demolition jobs. It is priced in, not added later.
Permits and utilities
Structures need disconnects and paperwork. Decks and fences generally do not.

Outside Scott County? We demolish across Central Kentucky: Lexington, Nicholasville, Richmond, Frankfort, Winchester, Versailles and Paris. The permit arrangement described above is this city’s own, and across our eight towns no two of them are the same, which is the whole reason this page exists.

Very quick from contact to in home to remove some flooring. Once on site they got straight to work and did an outstanding job! Very reasonable price for the work done. Will continue to use them for all future needs.
Sean S. Georgetown, KY
Extremely helpful and nice, was hired for land clearing and site preparation they removed pesky honey suckle. Definitely going to hire them in the future.
Kolton T. Lexington, KY

Who issues a demolition permit in Georgetown?

The Georgetown / Scott County Building Inspection Department, at 125 West Clinton Street on (502) 863-9802. Georgetown is unusual among the towns we serve in having one office cover everything on this side of the county line: Scott County’s own ordinance designates that department as the local enforcement agency for the Kentucky Building Code, and its fee schedule is headed for Stamping Ground, Sadieville, Georgetown and Scott County together. In most of our other towns the city and the county are separate authorities.

What does the permit cost?

The current published schedule lists residential demolition at $52, the same as moving a structure. Commercial demolition is not a flat fee: it is priced off the valuation-based cost and fee schedule instead. That $52 is the city’s fee for the permit and is separate from the cost of the work.

What does the application actually require?

We do not know, and we would rather say so. Georgetown does not publish its demolition application form or a list of what goes with it, so this page cannot tell you whether an asbestos report, evidence of utility disconnection, insurance or a bond is required here. Other cities in our area publish all of those; assuming Georgetown matches any of them would be guessing with your project. Call (502) 863-9802 and ask, and if you have had a notice about the property, the notice will cite what applies.

Do you handle the permit?

Crown handles the permit process as part of the job, which is stated on the demolition page and holds here. What that does not mean is that the paperwork takes no time: it means it is not your afternoon. For a deck, a fence or most interior work no wrecking permit is generally involved at all.

What does demolition cost in Georgetown?

A fence or gate is $200 to $1,200 and up; a deck, porch or concrete slab $400 to $2,500 and up; a shed or outbuilding $500 to $1,800 and up; interior gutting $1,500 to $6,000 and up; a house or small building $4,000 to $15,000 and up. These are the same figures as our main demolition page: the county you are in does not change the price list.

How far out do you go in Scott County?

Across the county, including out towards Stamping Ground and Sadieville. The ZIP codes are listed above. Worth knowing that the same building inspection office covers those communities as covers Georgetown itself, so the permit route does not change when you leave the city.
